Westwerk Welcomes AIGA Student Group

Last Friday, a group of AIGA design students joined Creative Director Dan West and Senior Designer Jackie Menth for an inside look at our agency and the work of our design team.

While visiting, the students got an exclusive view into our rebrand work for clients Rush River Brewing Company and Pikes Peak Brewing Company, and gleaned a few design nuggets along the way. They also learned about our digital work for client Pollen, and the importance of creating responsive sites in 2015. (Especially with Google’s latest responsive website announcement. More details in our white paper.)

With graduation quickly approaching, we thought we’d share five insightful tips to kick off the job search:

1. Get noticed. Use sites like Dribbble, Cargo Collective and Behance to get your name out there and your work noticed.

2. Put your money where your mouth is. Find an organized internship or do volunteer work to gain some experience and build up your portfolio. Check sites like PollenMidwest.org or Mpls Egotist for openings.

3. Have a couple cocktails. Attend industry events (such as those hosted by AIGA), and don’t be afraid to introduce yourself and ask questions!

4. Link yourself to others. Connect with professional groups and industry leaders on LinkedIn to strengthen your network. You never know who might be able to make an introduction.

5. The devil is in the details. Spend time on your resume and online portfolio so that you stand out from the rest. Remember that one resume does not work for every position.

Thanks to all the students who came to visit today and best of luck on your future endeavors!
