Once considered gauche and distracting, GIFs are now arguably the unofficial language of the internet. No matter where you fall on the hotly debated pronunciation divide (for the record, we’re on team hard g), there’s no arguing that the popularity of GIFs isn’t slowing down anytime soon. From popular listsicle sites like BuzzFeed to serious news outlets like The Atlantic, nearly everyone, it seems, has bowed to the mighty power of the GIF. When it comes to perfectly capturing a moment, emotion or dream scenario, no other format can do it quite as well.
