Four Web Design Trends to Watch for in 2017

Staying up to speed with web design trends can really make or break a website. It can take a site from being just okay, to something really spectacular! As we kick off the new year, we see a plethora of new design trends, making this the perfect time to take a step back and predict what 2017 might have in store for us. Here are four trends the Westwerk design team forecasts to help define web design this year:

  1. Gradients – Gradient made a strong comeback over the past year (think instagram), and by the looks of it, is slated to stick around for 2017. Because gradients aren’t accompanied by distinctive rules, designers can experiment with this trend and really push the limits. Looking to add a level of depth to your designs this year? Give this returning trend a try!
  2. Bold Colors – Gradients are just a glimpse of what we’ll see for color in 2017. With Pantone officially crowning “Greenery” the color of the year, we can expect to see a lot of bold, bright colors dominating the world of web design. Incorporate vibrant hues in your designs this year and you’re bound to get an eye grabbing result.
  3. Animation/Subtle Movements – Animations prove to be a powerful and unique way for users to interact with a website. As more and more visual tools become available to assist designer’s build engaging movements this year, they are likely to become more prominent. Sprinkle some animations and subtle movements into your designs in 2017 and you can expect to strike a smile or two.
  4. Virtual Reality – 2016 was hands down the year of augmented and virtual reality. We saw VR featured in everything from video games to movie trailers. Multiple headsets were also released making it more accessible to the general population. In 2017 we expect that this trend will continue to rapidly increase and designers will think of some pretty interesting ways to incorporate it into their designs.
